2010 Looks Bright
The GCC is constantly changing and there are effective and ineffective ways for businesses to deal with such changes. Whilst the outlook for 2010 appears positive across the GCC, with the forecast of Qatar’s GDP and the UAE’s 2010 budget looking particularly strong, we cannot forget that 2009 was a difficult year not only in the GCC but globally.
The general feeling amongst our clients is positive and we have seen an increase in recruitment plans for the first two quarters of the year. It is also apparent that clients will focus on talent development throughout 2010 in order to consolidate existing staff and to further strengthen their market positions by investing and enhancing career development. 2010 will be a true test to many businesses that have fought their way through 2009, protecting their brand, taking calculated risks, retaining their best possible staff and making sure the business has a true leader in place. Genuinely effective businesses are not those looking to just survive the downturn of 2009, but those seeing it as an opportunity to learn and for change and development throughout 2010.
2010 is the year that will show the true business leaders.

Charterhouse Partners with Abu Dhabi University
Charterhouse is proud to be the official Careers Partner for the Abu Dhabi University’s 2009 Careers Fair which also welcomed H.E. Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and scientific Research in the UAE.
The Careers Fair was designed to provide Abu Dhabi University students and graduates with the opportunity to meet employers face to face, in order to find out about career paths and opportunities they may have.
The event allowed students to see the importance of networking in order to learn about opportunities and secure employment. Companies such as First Gulf Bank, Etihad, ADNEC, and Mubadala were in attendance and able to provide students with an insight into the skills and qualifications those companies were seeking.
With over 4,000 students attending the two day event, Charterhouse was able to compliment this by providing strategic career advice and company guidance to the attendees. Our consultants and managers were on hand to provide advice on structuring effective resumes, how to prepare and perform well at interviews, communication skills and presentation tips.
If you are a student or graduate seeking further information or wishing to register your CV, please email graduates@charterhouse.ae.

Charterhouse Partnership: Market News
The Charterhouse brand and business was launched in Dubai and the Middle East in April 2004 and is now positioned as the leading regional recruiter within its area of disciplines and functional markets. Managing Director, Jennifer Campori commenced with Charterhouse in 2004 and has seen the business develop and overcome many obstacles throughout the years.
Campori says “whilst we anticipate challenges related to the global economic downturn, Charterhouse is well positioned to tackle these throughout 2009. The current economic climate is challenging for all areas of business, yet it is not all doom and gloom”.
We are starting to see changes in recruitment; many organisations are looking to fill key roles in order to fill strategic requirements. Several industries have recently made crucial and hard decisions, which in turn will enable them to ride through the downturn. There are certainly signs that things are looking up.
“In Abu Dhabi we are seeing large levels of recruitment within the Government sectors, Academics and Non-Profit Organisations”, says Campori. “Construction has taken a turn in terms of demand; we now see recruitment needs within Facilities Management, Interiors and Design, as opposed to more Technical roles. There are still jobs out there, they are just harder to find.”
Charterhouse continues to expand throughout the Middle East with the development of a dedicated Saudi Arabia team from January 2009. “The response to Charterhouse working in Saudi has been extremely promising, clients are very receptive and Saudi will certainly be a strong growth area for our business over 2009” says Campori. Charterhouse still sees the UAE as its main focus and with its offices in Dubai and Abu Dhabi going stronger than ever, their commitment to the UAE is solid.
